Magnus Macaire A werewolf of independant means PERSONALITY Most werewolves belong to a pack. They seek the comfort of family, the reliance on others for security. Most loner wolves go mad quickly, or live very brutal, short lives. This is not true of Magnus, a popular gentleman who seems to have taken London by storm. He goes to all the right parties, knows all the right people, knows all the right gossip. He's rich and unattached and probably not to be trusted, but when did that ever stop anyone? Macaire is, in fact, a fantastic political player, dabbling in intrigue, scandal, empire building and commerce all with no small amount of charm. Charm is something he has in droves, and uses it like a Vampire might flash their fangs or a decorated soldier might wear his medals. Charm will get information more easily than thugs, it will earn alliances more easily than broken promises. When he makes a promise, he delivers, and when he wants something, he gets it. Magnus plays what he calls The Great Game. In truth, it is politics and power-mongering, gathering together what influence he can to change the world and tweak it for his own amusement and sometimes his own profit. It is not for a desire to rule the world, that wouldn't be entertaining, but because he desires something to occupy his mind. There are many other players, some human, some not, and for the most part they know each other, there is a little give and take in their activities. But for all they call it a Game, there is nothing more serious. HISTORY In truth, no one knows how old Magnus is or where he came from. He is French, his name makes that very clear, and his faultless grasp of the language makes it clearer still. But when he comes from is far more tricky, and Magnus gives nothing away. The fact he is seen outside, unhampered by the sun, and can withstand the pull of the moon until the night it is at it's fullest betrays a great age, but no one knows for sure. What is known is that in 1887, Magnus Macaire was knighted by Queen Victoria for services to the crown, although what those services entailed remained a classified secret within the Bureau for Unnatural Registry's files. When asked, Magnus modestly brushes the matter off and changes the subject to something far less charged. MODERN AU: In the 21st century, Magnus could almost be considered retired. Rather than playing a political game, he owns a little antique shop full of the furniture he's collected over his long life. He never sells anything, but the shop is a front of his real work, gathering information and gossip, and being nosy about the doings of the undead community in the city. He's still actively involved in parties, charity functions, and is a patron of museums, opera and theatre. He also is a patron of the local werewolf packs. Not belonging to any of them gives him a certain neutrality, so he mediates disputes and acts as a Howler- that is, someone who tells the younger wolves stories of their heritage and history, legends and hopefully knowledge they might find useful. Some of the young wolves in his care he has taken on as "apprentices", they spend most of their time after school or work at the shop, running errands for him, or generally keeping out of trouble.
